Biographical Information[edit]

Fernando Badrina was named best pitcher of the 1999 Asian Baseball Cup, helping the Philippines national team to the title and a spot in the 1999 Asian Championship. He did not fare as well in the 2001 Baseball World Cup, allowing six runs in 2 2/3 IP. Opponents were 7 for 15 with 3 doubles, a triple, a walk and a hit-by-pitch. Only Christian Canlas had a higher ERA for the Filipino squad. In the 2002 Asian Games, he took the loss in a start against champion South Korea (5 1/3 IP, 14 H, 9 R, 9 ER, 2 BB, 3 K); Ruel Batuto took over. He was much better after relieving Roy Baclay against Silver Medalist Taiwan, with 3 1/3 hitless, scoreless, walkless inning, fanning one. He also pitched briefly against China (1/3 IP, 2 H, 2 R, 2 ER). He tied Ernesto Binarao for the most innings pitched on the team and was 3rd among their five hurlers in ERA even though he gave up the most earned runs. Badrina also was with the Philippines for the 2003 Asian Championship.
