2002 Asian Games
The 2002 Asian Games were the third Asian Games to feature baseball as a medal event. Held from September 29 through October 14, 2002 in Busan, South Korea, the home team won the Gold.
South Korea went 4-0 but most impressively outscored the opposition 39-0, tossing four shutouts in a row in the round-robin. They had a 11-5 run differential in the final two games. Seung-yeop Lee, Myung-hwan Park and Jin-woo Song were among the prominent names on the team. In-sik Kim was the manager.
Japan was 3-1 in the round-robin but lost in the second phase to Taiwan and had to settle for Bronze.
Chinese Taipei went 2-2 in the round-robin but won Silver thanks to their win over Japan in the playoffs. Hong-Chih Kuo and Chien-Ming Wang would wind up in the majors within a few years.
People's Republic of China finished 1-3 in 4th place.
Philippines placed last at 0-4.
