Biographical Information[edit]
Robbie Henderson played in the minor leagues from 1977 to 1979, in the San Francisco Giants organization. In 1977, he was a position player, hitting .253 in 30 games for the Great Falls Giants of the Pioneer League as an OF/3B. In 1978 he began a transition to the mound with the Cedar Rapids Giants of the Midwest League, as he played both third base and pitcher. He hit .217 in 74 games and was 1-3, 3.96 in 12 games from the mound. In 1979, he was a full-time pitcher for Cedar Rapids, going 3-3, 5.00 in 36 games, mainly in relief.
He was drafted three times, but signed with the Giants as a free agent. His draft history is as follows: the Minnesota Twins drafted him in the 28th round in 1973, out of high school; the Baltimore Orioles then drafted him in both the January (Second Round) and June (Third Round) 1974 amateur draft, in the secondary phase both times, but he did not sign. He choose instead to attend UCLA on a baseball scholarship, and was selected as a All-Pac-10 shortstop in 1976. He is listed under different variations of his name in the Baseball-Reference database, under Robert as a player, and under Robbie as a draftee.
He comes from a prominent baseball family. His father, Joe Henderson was a long-time scout. Brother Ken Henderson was a major league outfielder, and brother Joe Henderson Jr. played in the minors. Nephew Kenny Henderson Jr. also played in the minors. He is also a cousin of Kerry Dineen , on his mother's side. His daughter Heather Henderson works for the Las Vegas Aviators as the Marketing and Social Media Manager since she graduated from UNLV (https://www.milb.com/las-vegas/about/front-office). Robbie's youngest daughter, Britney Henderson, is attending college.
