Biographical Information[edit]

Kenny Henderson Jr. comes from a prominent baseball family. His father, Ken Henderson was a major league outfielder for many years and his grandfather, Joe Henderson was a long-time scout. Uncles Joe Henderson Jr. and Robert Henderson both played minor league baseball. He is also a cousin of Kerry Dineen.

He was drafted twice, first by the New York Mets in the 58th round in the 1987 amateur draft, coming out of high school, and then in the 60th round of the 1991 amateur draft, by the San Francisco Giants, upon his graduation from San Jose State University. He played two seasons in the minor leagues, both for the Everett Giants of the Northwest League. In 1991, he hit .159 in 38 games as an outfielder. In 1992, he moved to the mound and went 0-0 with a 4.02 ERA in 12 games, with 18 walks and 17 strikeouts in 15 2/3 innings.
