Ricky Vaughn
Ricky Vaughn is a fictional baseball player from the movie Major League, where he is played by Charlie Sheen. A young pitcher who spent the prior season pitching in the "California Penal League" (incarcerated for stealing a car), he throws the ball very hard but also had a control problem. He is nicknamed "Wild Thing", a nickname which was then applied in real life to Mitch Williams. Vaughn wore uniform number 99, which was a very unusual number in baseball at the time of the movie. His choice likely influenced Williams, and later Turk Wendell and others, to adopt the number.
Bob Uecker later stated that Charlie Sheen was the best athlete on the set and actually reached 86 mph on the radar gun while pitching. In an interview in 2011, Sheen claimed that he took steroids to prepare for the role.
