Biographical Information[edit]
Ricky Martinez has been a minor league pitcher. He is the son of Dennis Martinez.
Ricky was undrafted out of college. He signed with the St. Louis Cardinals, for whom his father was a minor league pitching coach. He went 3-0 with a 2.25 ERA in 19 outings for the 2010 GCL Cardinals, walking only 4 in 28 innings. In 2011, he went 2-4 with a 3.73 ERA in 22 games for the Batavia Muckdogs. The next year, he appeared for the Quad Cities River Bandits (4 Sv, 4.81 in 28 G) and Palm Beach Cardinals (0-2, Sv, 9.45, 2.48 WHIP in 10 G for a team his father was coaching). He remained under his father's guidance when he joined the Nicaraguan national team for the 2013 World Baseball Classic Qualifiers. He pitched in Nicaragua's 8-1 loss to Colombia. Relieving Elvin García in the 6th with a 6-1 deficit, he retired Steve Brown then gave up a hit to Reynaldo Rodriguez. He then retired major leaguers Edgar Rentería and Donovan Solano to end the inning. In the 7th, he was replaced by Danilo Álvarez.
He was traded to the Houston Astros for cash considerations on December 17, 2012. He did not play in 2013.
