Biographical Information[edit]
Elvin García has pitched in the minors and for the Nicaraguan national team.
García signed with the Atlanta Braves in January 2010; the scout was Marvin Throneberry. In his pro debut that summer, he was excellent for the DSL Braves at 5-1, 1.34 with two saves and only five walks in 60 2/3 IP. He was 7th in the pitcher-friendly Dominican Summer League in ERA. The next year, he improved to 6-3 with a save and a 2.37 ERA while walking just 3 in 64 2/3 innings. He was 2-2 with a save and a 4.18 ERA for the '12 GCL Braves, again showing superb control (2 BB in 28 IP).
In the 2013 World Baseball Classic Qualifiers, the lefty appeared in both of Nicaragua's games. In their opener, he relieved Gustavo Martinez in the bottom of the 5th with two on, one out and a 6-1 deficit already. He struck out Diover Ávila, walked Luis Martinez and then retired Giovanny Urshela to escape the jam. In the 6th, he was replaced by Ricky Martinez. In their second game against Panama, he replaced Jhonny Polanco with a 5-2 deficit, one on and two out in the bottom of the 8th. He allowed a run-scoring single to Luis Castillo then retired Jose Macias.
Elvin did not pitch again in the minors in 2013 or 2014. He coached for the neighboring Guatemalan national team in the 2014 Central American and Caribbean Games.
