Biographical information[edit]

Richard Martinez is a catcher in the Cleveland Indians farm system. He was signed at the age of 16 by Cleveland as a non-drafted free agent on April 27, 2004, by Henry Centeno. He hit .233/.357/.270 with 18 RBI, 2 stolen bases and 20 runs scored in 51 games with the DSL Indians in the remainder of that year.

In 2005, Martinez remained in the Dominican Summer League. He had a .195 BA, .291 OBP and .303 slugging percentage with 4 HRs, 27 RBI, one stolen base, and 17 runs scored in 68 games.

Martinez started the 2006 season with the Gulf Coast League Indians where he hit .300/.313/.400 with 5 RBI and five runs scored in 11 games. On July 19, he moved up to Burlington in the Appalachian League where he hit .313/.392/.438 with 2 HRs, 11 runs scored and 10 RBI in 23 games.

2007 found Martinez back with the GCL Indians where he hit .250/.350/.273 with 14 RBI and 11 runs scored in 27 games played.

In 2008, Richard was promoted to Lake County where he saw action in just one game before being moved up to High-A Kinston in the Carolina League.

Started the 2011 season in the Venezuelan League.
