Biographical Information[edit]

Rentaro Imanishi pitched in Nippon Pro Baseball for 10 years.

Imanishi was signed by the Hankyu Braves in 1946, and he was 7-8 with a 2.80 ERA in his rookie year. He was 6th in ERA in the JPBL, between Jiro Noguchi and Takao Misono. Imanishi then went 21-15 with a 1.91 ERA in 1947, ranking 5th in ERA (between Takehiko Bessho and Tadayoshi Kajioka), 8th in complete games (28, tied with Shigeaki Kuroo) and 9th in wins (between Kuroo and Kajioka). He was 23-17 with a 2.71 ERA in 1948, and he was 6th in wins (between Juzo Sanada and Kajioka).

The Osaka native led the league in losses in 1949 (tied with Kuroo and Nobuo Nakatani), and he was 19-19 with a 3.17 ERA in that season. He ranked 7th in wins (tied with Tokuji Kawasaki) and 6th in complete games (12 behind Victor Starffin). When the JPBL split between two leagues in 1950. Imanishi joined the Taiyo Whales and he was 10-13 with a 4.07 ERA. He slumped to 2-7 with a 7.92 ERA in 1951, then he recorded a 5.02 ERA in 12 games in 1952. The Whales released him, and Hankyu signed him back. Imanishi only pitched 7 games for them in 1953, and he was released again. The Toei Flyers then signed him, and he was 2-8 with a 4.15 ERA in 1954. After having a 2-12 record with a 3.97 ERA, Imanishi announced his retirement after the 1955 season.

Overall, Imanishi was 88-102 with a 3.23 ERA, struck out 491 and pitched 1,690 1/3 innings in 10 years in NPB.
