Biographical Information[edit]

Red Anderson was pitching for the Sioux Falls Canaries in the Class D Nebraska State League in 1936 and 1937 when he was scouted by Nick Altrock and signed by the Washington Senators. He made his major league debut with the Senators on September 19, 1937. In 1938 and 1939 he pitched in the Senators farm system for the Charlotte Hornets of the Class B Piedmont League and the Springfield Nationals of the Class A Eastern League. In 1940, he was with Springfield and the Senators, and he spent 1941 with the Senators. He pitched the 1942 season with the Chattanooga Lookouts of the of the Class A1 Southern Association and on October 10 went into the Navy in Des Moines, Iowa. He served in a number of U.S. stations and then went to Hawaii, where he played service baseball in 1943 and in 1944 played for the Navy in the Army all-star classic. He was discharged in Lido Beach, NY on November 17, 1945 as a Specialist Second Class. In 1946, he was back with Sioux Falls and the Aberdeen Pheasants in the Class C Northern League. In total, he pitched in 36 major league games for the Senators.
