Biographical Information[edit]

Paul Roof was a pitcher for four seasons in the Milwaukee Braves farm system in 1960-1961, 1963, and 1965. He had a 2-3, 6.21 record for the Eau Claire Braves in 1960, walking 34 in 42 IP. In 1961, he went 5-6 with a 3.39 ERA for the Cedar Rapids Braves. After that season, he was selected by the Houston Colt .45s with their 14th pick in the 1961 expansion draft; there is speculation that Houston GM Paul Richards may have confused him with his brother Phil Roof, a catcher who went on to a long major league career, and had also been made available by the Braves in the draft. However he never played at all in 1962, likely the result of arm woes, and signed back with the Braves after being released following the season.

Roof went 0-2 for the 1963 Greenville Braves, allowing 9 runs in 7 innings. He again missed the 1964 season, then in 1965, he allowed 8 runs in 11 innings for the West Palm Beach Braves to conclude his career with a 7-11 record.

In addition to Phil, Paul is the brother of Gene Roof, David Roof, and Adrian Roof, the cousin of Eddie Haas and minor leaguer Lou Haas, and the uncle of Shawn Roof, Eric Roof and Jonathan Roof.
