Ottawas

From BR Bullpen

Ottawa was granted an expansion team in the Northern Independent League for the 1906 season.

Ottawa's roster featured one former big-leaguer, Frank Shaughnessy, and at least five future big-leaguers: Red Murray, Ray Demmitt, Carl Sitton, Doc Martel, and Jim Ball. Red Murray never played in an Ottawa uniform, as he jumped to the St. Louis Cardinals before the Northern Independent League season began. Frank Shaughnessy was known as the "home run king of the Northern League." He hit .297 with 5 homers in 128 at-bats. The most famous member of the team was pitcher and outfielder Arthur Hillebrand.

After the Plattsburgh, NY team folded in mid-July, Ottawa made an attempt to sign one of Plattsburgh's infielders, Columbia University star and future Hall of Famer Eddie Collins. Instead, Collins signed with the Rutland, VT team. Collins would eventually lose his amateur status because of his time spent in the Northern Independent League.

The Ottawa team folded on August 20, 1906, because of financial difficulties.
