Biographical Information

Oscar Bustamante has played in the US, Austria, Germany and France. He has been on the Sint Maarten national team.

He played his college ball in the US then was assistant coach at West Boca High School in 2018-2019. In 2021, he hit .404/.564/.702 with 32 runs in 16 games for the Wiener Neustadt Diving Ducks of the Austrian Baseball League. He stole 14 bases in 15 tries and drew 18 walks. He was 7th in average, led in OBP (.007 ahead of Heorhii Hvrytishvili), was 8th in slugging (between Ferdinand Obed and Moritz Scheicher), ranked 5th in OPS, trailed only Tobias Werner in triples (he had 3) and was third in swipes.

In 2022, he played in Germany, for the Mannheim Tornados. He had a .320/.408/.408 and fielded .916, mainly playing shortstop. His next stop was the Barracudas de Montpellier in France. In 2023, he hit .333/.454/.417 there with 23 runs in 24 games, fielding .906. He was among the French Division I leaders in average (8th, between Paolo Brossier and Hugo Blondel), slugging (10th), OBP (9th, between Felix Brown and Blondel), runs (6th), hits (32, 3rd, behind Ivan Acuña and Yeixon Ruiz, RBI (19, tied for 6th), triples (3, 1st), total bases (40, 5th, between Brossier and Blondel), walks (19, tied Pierre-Emmanuel Planes and Dylan Gleeson for 5th), assists (52, tied for 5th with Ruiz) and double plays (tied for 4th with 14).

After a stint as assistant coach at Chaminade Madonna High School in 2023-2024 , he returned to France for 2024 and hit .239/.364/.370. He was the first second baseman for Sint Maarten in an international tournament when he played for them in the 2024 Caribbean Baseball Cup opener; he was their second batter ever, after Alex Madera. He batted .231/.444/.308 with 5 walks in 5 games, fielding .850. He tied Francisco Martínez, Luis Guzman, Dwayne Maduro and Jeldwin Orman for the event lead in walks.
