The Mannheim Tornados have been a top team in German baseball. The Tornados were a name used by a US serviceman team playing in Germany during World War II and attracted a strong following. When Bundesliga was created in 1982, the new Tornados won titles almost every season - doing so in 1982, 1984, 1985, 1986, 1987, 1988, 1989, 1991, 1993, 1994 and 1997 - before the Paderborn Untouchables replaced them as the dominant force in the country. The Tornados were also the first German team to win a European trophy as they won the 1985 European Cup Pool B.
