Team Information[edit]

In the spring of 2006, the Orlando Hammers joined the Florida Collegiate Summer League, a Summer Collegiate Baseball league recognized by Baseball America as one of the nation's top collegiate leagues. The Hammers play their home games only minutes from downtown Orlando, FL at The First Academy of Orlando’s Hershiser Field, a brand stadium built for the team and named after former Major League pitcher and 1988 National League Cy Young Award winner Orel Hershiser.

The Orlando Hammers are a Major League Baseball-sanctioned team which is designed and dedicated to provide the nation's collegiate players the opportunity to compete at a higher level and prepare for entering the MLB Draft. The Hammers operate in a similar manner to a Minor League team: playing nightly in stadiums before fans, using wood bats and minor league specification equipment, and experiencing road trips between games. Like all other summer collegiate players, they are unpaid in order to maintain their NCAA eligibility, and live with host families in the same manner as Single A and Independent League players.

The Hammers are affiliated with the Athletes in Action network, a Christian ministry which operates Summer Collegiate Baseball teams in five leagues. Athletes in Action is dedicated to nurture physical, spiritual and personal devolopment, discipline and growth within their players. AIA athletes are expected to live to a moral standard while affiliated with the team, and participate in team Bible studies. The Orlando Hammers, like other Athletes in Action teams, employ a team chaplain to aide in developing the faiths of the players.
