Team Bio[edit]

In the summer of 2003, a decision was made by league executives in the Texas Collegiate League to move one of the league's original eight francises to Mineral Wells, TX. Having noted the success with teams in other leagues, Athletes in Action was courted as a potential buyer of the Steam. Within two weeks of the original proposal, AIA became the new owners and the Mineral Wells Steam were born.

The Steam name was decided upon by the Texas Collegiate League in honor of the impact the train depot had on the development of Mineral Wells as a city.

The Steam are a Major League Baseball-sanctioned team which is designed and dedicated to provide the nation's collegiate players the opportunity to compete at a higher level and prepare for entering the MLB Draft. The Steam operate in a similar manner to a Minor League team: playing nightly in stadiums before fans, using wood bats and minor league specification equipment, and experiencing road trips between games. Like all other summer collegiate players, they are unpaid in order to maintain their NCAA eligibility, and live with host families in the same manner as Single A and Independent League players.

The Mineral Wells Steam are affiliated with the Athletes in Action network, a Christian ministry which operates Summer Collegiate Baseball teams in five leagues. Athletes in Action is dedicated to nurture physical, spiritual and personal devolopment, discipline and growth within their players. AIA athletes are expected to live to a moral standard while affiliated with the team, and participate in team Bible studies. The Athletes in Action Fire, like other Athletes in Action teams employ a team chaplain to aide in developing the faith of the players.

2004 marked the inaugural season for the Mineral Wells Steam.
