Biographical Information[edit]

Oriel Caicedo has pitched in the minors and for the Panamanian national team.

He was signed by Atlanta Braves scout Luis Ortiz. [1] He debuted with the 2011 DSL Braves, going 3-2 with a 2.10 ERA and .97 WHIP to win team Pitcher of the Year. [2] One of his teammates was his older brother, also named Oriel Caicedo. [3] He missed 2012 after ACL surgery. [4]

Caicedo was 1-1 with a 2.06 ERA for the 2013 GCL Braves. He was 4th in the Gulf Coast League in ERA, between Joey Maher and Jose Alonzo. [5] He split 2014 between the GCL Braves (4-2, 2.81) and Danville Braves (1-0, 0.95 in 3 G). He moved up to the Rome Braves in '15, posting a 5-7, 3.55 record and walking only 14 in 101 1/3 IP.

Oriel was back with Rome in 2016 and fell to 3-5, 4.26 with three saves. In 2017, he pitched for the Florida Fire Frogs (2-5, 3.58 in 12 G) and Rome (5-2, Sv, 3.20 in 13 G), walking 21 in 105 1/3 innings overall. He pitched that winter for the Caribes de Anzoátegui in Venezuela, with a 6.19 ERA and no decisions. A free agent, he moved to the indy leagues, going 2-4 with a 3.60 ERA for the 2018 Lake Erie Crushers.

He was on Panama's squad for the 2019 Pan American Games Qualifier, relieving Andy Otero in the 2nd inning of the opener against Team Canada. In a 5-1 loss, he did well (6 IP, 2 H, 1 BB, 2 R, 2 ER) but Scott Richmond was sharper. [6] He then starred for Panama's Toros de Herrera in the 2019 Caribbean Series, with no runs in 5 1/3 innings (3 H, 3 BB) in a 1-0 win over the Santurce Crabbers. Panama was making its first Caribbean Series appearance in 59 years and his win over one of the Series' most successful teams historically got them into the finals, where they pulled off another stunner for the title. Only Lázaro Blanco and Wilfredo Boscán pitched more innings that Series without allowing a run. [7]
