The Toros de Herrera joined the Panama Professional League in 2017-18 and the following year won the championship.

They were the first Panamanian team since 1960 to play in a Caribbean Series when they did so in 2019. They got the spot because Panama became a late host when political unrest in Venezuela caused the Series to move. The team included MLB veterans Manny Corpas, Enrique Burgos Jr., Allen Córdoba, Severino González and Javy Guerra. Managed by Manuel Rodriguez, they pulled off a stunner by winning it all, something no Panamanian team had done since 1950. Córdoba (.389/.450/.389) and Guerra (.389/.389/.722) tied for the best average and Guerra led in slugging en route to being named Caribbean Series MVP. Joining Guerra on the All-Star team were LHP Andy Otero (1-0, .27 WHIP, 0.00 ERA in 3 2/3 IP) and Nicaraguan reinforcements 3B Elmer Reyes (.368/.368/.632, 5 RBI) and DH Jilton Calderón (.273/.273/.455). Other excellent pitching contributors were Oriel Caicedo (1-0, 0 R in 5 1/3 IP), Luis Mateo (1 UER in 7 IP), Corpas (4 Sv, 2.25 to tie the Series record for saves) and Harold Araúz (1-0, 0.90), who beat Cuba in the finale.
