Biographical Information[edit]
Ona Dodd was one of the earliest major leaguers to come out of Texas Christian University. He played in five games for the Pittsburgh Pirates of 1912, a team on which he was 13 years younger than teammate Honus Wagner and three years older than teammate Max Carey.
Dodd also played seven years in the Texas League. John "Oyster Joe" Martina was a teammate for several years, and Jim Delahanty was a teammate and manager for part of the 1916 season.
Dodd played right field for the American Association's Columbus Senators in 1913 in at least one game, April 12th, the season opener at Mineapolis. He batted fifth in the lineup, had three at-bats and took the collar. He had no putouts or assists, and committed no errors. Columbus lost, 8-1. Neither team committed an error, a rarity among Opening Days in the American Association. Dodd is listed as playing infield as a member of the Senators in 1913 (see Joe Santry's compendium on Columbus baseball, 2004).
