Biographical Information[edit]
Olmedo Suárez played for the Dominican national team and in the minors.
He was on the first Dominican world champions, in the 1948 Amateur World Series, and won Silver in the 1950 Amateur World Series. [1] He turned pro with the Tigres del Licey in 1951 and won the Dominican League batting title in 1953 at .336. [2] He came to the US in 1956 with the San Jose JoSox (.313/.385/.373) and Louisville Colonels (0 for 1).
Suárez next signed with the Leones de Yucatán, hitting .304/.365/.413 with 26 doubles and 1 runs in 1957, fielding .967 at 2B. He was 10th in the Mexican League in average and tied for first with seven sacrifice flies. [3] He was third in the LMB in doubles, after Alonzo Perry and Alfredo Rios, and tied for ninth with six triples. With the same club in 1958, he batted .307/.338/.352, just missing another top-ten finish in average. His LMB career ended with the 1959 Rojos del Águila de Veracruz, hitting .271/.318/.309 and fielding .975 at second base.
He was inducted into the the Dominican Sports Hall of Fame in 1987. [4] He did when he was hit by a motorcycle. [5]
