Biographical Information

Shortstop Noelvi Marté was signed as an international free agent by the Seattle Mariners in 2018. He began his professional career in 2019 with the DSL Mariners and impressed by batting .309 with 9 homers and 54 RBIs in 65 games. He had to sit out the 2020 season when the minor leagues were shut down by the Coronavirus pandemic. In 2021, he was assigned to the Modesto Nuts in the re-named Low-A West. On August 3rd, he had a career day in a game against the Stockton Ports as he hit three homers, including his first career grand slam and drove in 9 runs; unfortunately, the Nuts still managed to lose the game, 15-14, in spite of his heroics. At 19, he was considered the #4 prospect in the Mariners organization at the time. He played 8 games for the Everett AquaSox at the end of the year and ended the season at .273 in 107 games between the two teams, with 28 doubles and 17 homers, scoring 91 runs and driving in 71.

He was back with Everett to start the 2022 season and in 84 games there hit .270 with 15 homers and 55 RBIs. On July 29th, he was one of four prospects traded to the Cincinnati Reds in return for P Luis Castillo, along with Edwin Arroyo, Levi Stoudt and Andrew Moore. He played for the Spanish national team in the 2022 World Baseball Classic Qualifiers, the top prospect on the team. He hit .412/.474/.647 with 6 runs and 8 RBI in 4 games, including a homer off Fernando Baez. Only Leonardo Reginatto had more hits during the qualifiers, he tied Anfernee Seymour and Jesús Ustariz for the most runs and he tied Ustariz, Edison Valerio and Harry Ford for the most RBI. Spain still missed a spot in the 2023 World Baseball Classic.

He was named to play on the National League team in the 2023 Futures Game and made his major league debut with the Reds one month later, first appearing as a pinch-runner in a 4-3 loss to the Toronto Blue Jays on August 19, 2023. In 35 games for the Reds, he hit .316 with 3 homers and 15 RBIs, for an OPS+ of 120. He was penciled in as the regular at third base in 2024 when those plans were upended on March 8th when he was hit with an 80-game suspension for testing positive for PEDs, more specifically banned anabolic steroid Boldenone.
