The following year, with the Columbus Catfish, he hit .280 with 12 home runs, 60 RBI and 20 stolen bases (all career highs). In 2008, Ashley hit .235 with four home runs and 26 RBI in 102 games with the Vero Beach Devil Rays. He split 2009 between the Charlotte Stone Crabs and Montgomery Biscuits, hitting a combined .230 with three home runs and 36 RBI. In 2010, he hit .249 with eight home runs and 47 RBI with the Biscuits and Durham Bulls. In 2011, he batted .263 with eight home runs and 48 RBI in 112 games between Montgomery and Durham. He hit .246 with two home runs and 24 RBI in 70 games for the Indianapolis Indians of the Pittsburgh Pirates system in 2014. Ashley was with the Pirates for their series with the New York Yankees in May that year, in case Tony Sanchez's right elbow necessitated a trip to the DL (starting catcher Russell Martin was already out on the DL). Ashley was not added to the roster and his services were unneeded as Sanchez remained healthy enough to play. He moved to the Milwaukee Brewers system in 2015, starting the year with the Colorado Springs Sky Sox. After a decade in the minors, Ashley finally got the call to the big leagues in September with the Crew after a solid season for their AAA team in Colorado Springs (.306/.374/.442, 26 extra base hits (8 home runs), 61 RBI in 94 games). In 20 trips to the plate, he had 2 hits, lacing a run-scoring double off Tom Koehler of Miami in his first at bat. He joined the Toronto Blue Jays as their bullpen catcher in 2019.
