Biographical Information[edit]
Nate Smith has pitched in the minors.
Smith set his high school's career record for wins (24-4, 2.68). As a college freshman, he was 2-1 with a 10.27 ERA. He played in the Great Lakes Summer Collegiate League in 2010. As a sophomore in 2011, he had a 3-5, 5.88 record. With the Alexandria Beetles, he was 3-3 with a 2.70 ERA in the Northwoods League. He went 4-5 with a 5.54 ERA as a junior. In his senior year, he improved to 7-4, 3.59. He tied for 4th in the Southern Conference in wins and was 4th with 98 strikeouts.
The Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim took him in the 8th round of the 2013 amateur draft; the scout was Todd Hogan. In his pro debut, he was 2-2 with a 3.86 ERA and walked only 7 in 35 innings for the Orem Owlz. The Spokane native excelled in 2014 with the Inland Empire 66ers (6-3, 3.07) and Arkansas Travelers (5-3, 2.89), fanning 118 in 118 IP and allowing only 89 hits. He tied Michael Roth for second in the Angels organization in wins, 3 behind Tyler DeLoach. He was also 5th in Ks and 3rd in ERA among hurlers with 100+ IP (after Roth and Harrison Cooney). He was 1-1 with a 3.27 ERA for the Arizona Fall League's Mesa Solar Sox.
Smith began 2015 back with Arkansas then joined Team USA for the 2015 Pan American Games.
