Biographical Information[edit]
Min-hyeok Shin pitched in the KBO and for the South Korea national baseball team.
Shin was drafted by the NC Dinos in the fifth round of the 2018 KBO draft, and he spent his first two seasons in the minors. He was 2-3 with a 5.79 ERA in 2020, and he improved to 9-6 with a 4.41 ERA in 2021. Shin was still a solid starter in 2022 as he had a 4-9 record with a 4.56 ERA, and he set the team record on August 28 by retiring 21 consecutive batters in a game. He was 5-5 with a 3.98 ERA in 2023, and he pitched 6 1/3 shutout innings against KT Wiz in the 2023 KBO Playoff Series Game 2. He allowed 2 runs in 4 1/3 innings in Game 5, and the Wiz eliminated the Dinos.
The Seoul native then made it onto Korea's roster for the 2023 Asia Professional Baseball Championship. He relieved Young-kyu Kim in the 7th inning against Australia, but he gave up a hit to Liam Spence then walked Aaron Whitefield. Ji-min Choi replaced him, and that was his only appearance in the entire event. Korea won Silver in that event because of Makoto Kadowaki's walk-off hit. He was 8-9 with a 4.31 ERA in 2024.
Shin's repertoire included a fastball (peak 92 mph), curveball, slider, cutter, splitter, knuckleball and changeup.
