Biographical Information

Pitcher Mike Lee has played in the minor leagues since 2008.

He was originally drafted by the New York Yankees in the 22nd round of the 2005 amateur draft out of high school, a couple picks after Tommy Hanson and ahead of Jaime Garcia, but opted not to sign. The Yankees took him again in the 27th round of the 2006 amateur draft out of junior college, but again, he did not sign. After the Boston Red Sox selected him in the 8th round of the 2008 amateur draft (one round after Tim Federowicz), he inked a contract, with the signing scout being Ernie Jacobs.

He allowed eight runs in six innings for the 2008 Lowell Spinners. In 2009, he was 3-4 with a save and a 3.50 ERA for the Greenville Drive, striking out 71 in 72 innings. In 2010, he was 9-7 with a 4.42 ERA for the Salem Red Sox, walking only 30 in 112 IP. He tied Stolmy Pimentel for 4th in the Red Sox chain in wins. In the Carolina League, he tied Pimentel and Charles Leesman for sixth in victories. He struggled in 2011 with the Lowell Spinners (0-1, 2.35 in 2 G) and the Portland Sea Dogs (1-6, 5.73 in 24 G). He allowed 16 hits, 4 walks and 8 runs (7 earned) in 9 innings for the 2012 Sea Dogs and was released in April.

After pitching briefly in independent ball (3-1, Sv, 2.20 in 13 G, 59 K in 41 IP), he was signed by the Atlanta Braves for the remainder of the 2012 campaign. He was 3-3 with a 3.93 ERA for the Lynchburg Hillcats. He spent 2013 between the Mississippi Braves (9-8, 3.71) except for one start for the Gwinnett Braves (3 R, 10 H in 5 IP), tied for 4th in the Red Sox chain in wins. He remained in the Atlanta system until being drafted by the Arizona Diamondbacks in the AAA phase of the 2013 Rule V Draft.

He began 2014 with their Double-A team, the Mobile BayBears.
