Biographical Information[edit]

Catcher Tim Federowicz attended the University of North Carolina, where he hit 12 home runs as a freshman. After hitting .308 as a junior, he was selected by the Boston Red Sox in the 2008 amateur draft. He was signed by scout Quincy Boyd and made his pro debut that summer with the Lowell Spinners.

Federowicz was traded twice in one day on July 31, 2011. First, he was one of four Red Sox prospects, along with Chih-Hsien Chiang, Stephen Fife and Juan Rodriguez sent to the Seattle Mariners for Ps Erik Bedard and Josh Fields, then was immediately flipped to the Los Angeles Dodgers, along with Fife and Rodriguez, for Trayvon Robinson. Within two months, he was a September callup for L.A., and he struck out in his first big league at-bat, facing the San Francisco Giants on September 11th. He went 2 for 13 in 7 games that season, then was back in the minor leagues with the AAA Albuquerque Isotopes for most of 2012. He hit .294/.371/.461 in 115 games, with 34 doubles and 11 homers. He got another cup of coffee with the Dodgers towards the end of the season, going 1 for 3 in three games.

Federowicz made the Dodgers' roster out of spring training in 2013 as the back-up to A.J. Ellis, but had only got into one game, in which he went 0 for 3 with a walk, when he was sent back to Albuquerque after the Dodgers acquired veteran Ramon Hernandez in a trade with the Colorado Rockies. He hit .533 (8 for 15) in 4 games with the Isotopes and was soon back with the Dodgers, being called up on April 18th before a series of games in American League ballparks in which Hernandez would serve as the DH, and he would be as the second-string backstop.

On December 11, 2014, the Dodgers traded Federowicz with Matt Kemp to the San Diego Padres for Yasmani Grandal and pitchers Zach Eflin and Joe Wieland.

Federowicz became manager of the Tacoma Rainiers in 2022. In 2023, he was named the catching coach of the Detroit Tigers then became manager of the Toledo Mud Hens in 2024.
