He was signed by the Oakland Athletics; the scout was JC De La Cruz. [1] He made his US debut in 2017, appearing for the DSL Athletics (0 R in 3 IP), AZL Athletics (1 R in 2 IP), Beloit Snappers (2 R in 8 IP) and Stockton Ports (3-1, 6.87 in 8 G). That fall, he was 1-0 with a 7.59 ERA for the Mesa Solar Sox, surrendering 20 hits in 10 2/3 innings in the Arizona Fall League. In '18, he pitched for the Ports (1-2, 13 Sv, 1.84 in 22 G) and Midland RockHounds (1-1, Sv, 6.00 in 22 G), striking out 66 in 59 1/3 IP overall. He tied Kyle Finnegan for 3rd in the A's chain in saves and was third in the California League, behind Reid Humphreys and teammate Angel Duno.

Making it to AAA in 2019, he was 4-1 with three saves and a 3.96 ERA, striking out 81 in 72 2/3 IP but walking 3. His 45 appearances for the Las Vegas Aviators tied Eric Mariñez and Trey McNutt for the most by an Oakland farmhand. In the Roberto Clemente Professional Baseball League that winter, he was excellent at 2-0, 1.46 with four saves for the Indios de Mayagüez. He tied Miguel Mejia for third in the loop in saves. The 2020 minor league season was wiped out by the COVID-19 pandemic. He was was promoted to the major leagues for the first time on September 8, 2021 by the Athletics, but was optioned down on September 21 without appearing in a game.

Returning to action in 2021, he fell to 3-6, 6.27 with two saves for the Aviators, his K rate falling. Added to Oakland's 40-man roster, he had his third year with the Aviators but his woes got worse (2-1, 7.76 in 38 G; 1.91 WHIP). He rebounded with the Gigantes de Carolina in the winter, going 1-0 with a save and seven shutout innings. With the Cuban national team allowing defectors to play without being repatriated, he made Cuba's roster for the 2023 World Baseball Classic. [2] He had an excellent tournament, being named one of three pitchers on the all-tournament team, alongside Shohei Ohtani and Patrick Sandoval.
