Melvin Deras has been on the Salvadoran national team.
He debuted in the 2023 Central American and Caribbean Games Central American Qualifier, starting at third base and batting third. He grounded out against Costa Rica's Pablo Barquero his first time up and his first hit was off Guatemala's Alejandro Amézquita. He hit .308/.375/.385, tying Mario Velasco for the team lead with four hits. He fielded .950 and his 12 assists were 5th in the tourney, between Manrique Mora and Velasco. [1] El Salvador automatically qualified for the 2023 Central American and Caribbean Games as host and were using the qualifier as a preparatory event. In the Games themselves, Deras started at short. He batted .154/.267/.231 with two runs and a RBI in five games; his hits came off Curaçao's Temesh Lourens and Mexico's Faustino Carrera. He fielded .857. He was the only Salvadoran player with multiple runs in the Games. He tied Michael Chirinos and Junnell Ledezma for third in assists (15) but tied César Cerón and Alex Monsalve for the most errors (3). [2]
