Biographical Information[edit]

Mauricio Montenegro played for the Guatemalan national team in the 1990 Central American Games; a bright spot on the winless team, he hit .400 to finish 8th in the event, between Julio Medina and Nemesio Porras. In the 1994 Central American Games, he helped Guatemala win the Silver Medal and helped hand Nicaragua its lone loss; facing Epifanio Pérez, he drove in Luis Figueroa with the first run in a 2-1 upset win. He also played in the 1995 Pan American Games and 1997 Central American Games. He was active in Guatemala's top league from 1985-2002. He later coached at a Guatemalan baseball academy. His sons Gabriel Montenegro and Rodrigo Montenegro also played for the Guatemalan national team.
