Biographical Information

Gabriel Montenegro has played for the Guatemalan national team, as did his father Mauricio Montenegro and brother Rodrigo Montenegro. His mother, Melanie Slowing, was an Olympic swimmer in 2004.

Montenegro was on the Guatemalan team that won the 2012 Senior League World Series (alongside Fabián Vizcaíno and Juan Montes. He came to the US and hit .413/.486/? in two years of high school. Going on to college, he was redshirted as a freshman. Playing for Guatemala in the 2017 Central American Games, he hit .235/.316/.353 with four RBI in four games. He did his best against champion Nicaragua, going 2 for 4 with two doubles, a run and two RBI. His three doubles ranked second in the event, one behind Juan Colato.
