Biographical Information[edit]
Rodrigo Montenegro has played for the Guatemalan national team. He comes from a notable athletic family - his father Mauricio Montenegro was a long-time member of the Guatemalan baseball team, his mother Melanie Slowing was an Olympic swimmer in 2004 and his brother Gabriel Montenegro has also played for the Guatemalan baseball team.
Like his brother, he come to the US to play high school baseball. He and Gabriel were teammates on Guatemala in the 2017 Central American Games, while Rodrigo was still in high school. He hit .286/.545/.286 with two runs and a RBI in a part-time role and started in the Bronze Medal Game against El Salvador, which got rained out, giving both teams the Bronze. That made him one of the few high school players in the US to win a medal in an international competition. He committed to St. Petersburg College for the 2018-2019 season.
