Biographical Information

The son of NFL defensive lineman Manu Tuiasosopo [1] and the brother of NFL quarterback (and 1997 MLB draftee) Marques Tuiasosopo [2], Matt Tuiasosopo was selected by the Seattle Mariners in the third round of the 2004 amateur draft. He was signed by scout Phil Geisler and made his pro debut that summer with the AZL Mariners and hit a home run in his first professional at-bat on July 10th. After hitting .412 with 4 homers in 20 games, he was promoted to the Everett Aqua Sox and hit .255 with 3 home runs in 30 games there. He was with the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers in 2005 and hit .276 with 6 home runs and 45 RBIs to earn a spot on the Midwest League All-Star team. He split the next year between the Inland Empire 66ers, for whom he hit .306 in 59 games, and the San Antonio Missions, where he batted just .185 in 62 games.

With the West Tenn Diamond Jaxx in 2007, Tuiasosopo hit .260 with 9 home runs and 57 RBIs and earned a spot on the Southern League All-Star team. He began the following season with the AAA Tacoma Rainiers and was called up to Seattle in early September after hitting .281/.364/.453 in 111 games. He made his debut on September 5, 2008, going 1 for 4 as the starting third baseman against the New York Yankees.

Tuiasosopo became a manager with the Rome Braves in 2019. He spent 2020 as a key member of the Braves alternate training site coaching staff after the shutdown of what would have been his second season managing Rome. In 2021 he managed the Gwinnett Stripers. After the 2022 season he also managed the Scottsdale Scorpions of the Arizona Fall League. In 2024, he was promoted to the major league Atlanta Braves' coaching staff, replacing Ron Washington as the third base coach (Washington had been named manager of the Los Angeles Angels).
