Biographical Information[edit]

Matt Pali peaked at AA and also played in Germany.

Pali hit .361/.417/.550 at Florida Atlantic University in 2002. [1] The next year, he batted .345/.441/.577 with 61 runs in 63 games. [2] The Anaheim Angels took him in the 17th round of the 2003 amateur draft, one round before Fernando Rodriguez.

He had a strong pro debut with the Provo Angels, batting .327/.422/.529 with 47 runs in 64 games. He was 9th in the Pioneer League in average (between Manuel Ramírez and Brandon Bounds), 4th in OBP (between Howie Kendrick and Drew Anderson), 9th in slugging (between Bounds and Kendrick) and 7th in OPS (between Kendrick and Joey Votto, nice company). The OF-1B made only one error in 2004 for the Cedar Rapids Kernels, while producing at a .256/.343/.398 clip with ten dingers.

In 2005, he was at .257/.336/.366 with 12 homers, 15 steals and 81 runs for the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes. He tied for 8th in the California League in swipes. In the Angels chain, he tied Alberto Callaspo for 9thi n runs. He split 2006 between the Quakes (.242/.297/.352 in 24 G) and the Arkansas Travelers (.232/.277/.348 in 96 G). He batted .242/.307/.345 for the 2007 Travelers to end his time in the Angels chain.

Going to the indepedent leagues, he batted .269/.330/.402 with 22 doubles for the Pensacola Pelicans. He then signed with the Solingen Alligators in Germany's Bundesliga-1. The Texan hit .389/.486/.685 with 22 RBI and 17 runs in 14 games, continuing to split time between first and the outfield, as he had in the US. He had a 3.38 ERA in three pitching appearances (he had also pitched a handful of games in the minors). He finished 6th in the northern Bundesliga-1 in average, tied for 2nd in homers (4, 2 behind Dominik Wulf), was 8th in RBI, led in slugging, was 5th in OBP and was second in OPS (3 points behind Chris Beck). In 2010, he moved to the Heidenheim Heideköpfe and batted .389/.486/.685 with 14 runs and 14 RBI in 14 games. He tied for 5th in the southern Bundesliga-1 with four homers. [4] In the 2010 European Cup, he hit a two-run homer off Enorbel Marquez in an upset over Telemarket Rimini; he was 2 for 8 in the Cup as Heidenheim finished second. [5]
