Matt Means pitched briefly in the minors.

Means was 10-2 with a 1.85 ERA as a college senior and struck out 93 in 102 innings. He was named first-team All-American for NCAA Division II, joining Korey Noles, Anthony Bass, Anthony Perez and Nick Schumacher as the pitchers. He was the fourth Sonoma State All-American, after Derek Bell, Fehlandt Lentini and Brent Lysander. The San Diego Padres took him in the 37th round of the 2008 amateur draft. He split the summer between the AZL Padres (9 R in 10 1/3 IP) and Eugene Emeralds (0-3, 12 H, 19 R, 11 BB in 5 2/3 IP) to end with a 11.25 ERA and WHIP over 2 as a pro.
