Biographical Information[edit]

Nick Schumacher pitched in the minor leagues from 2008 to 2012.

Schumacher was 13-2 with a 2.36 ERA with 96 strikeouts in 91 2/3 innings as a college senior. He tied for the most wins in NCAA Division II while setting a school record for victories. He tied the school record of career wins by going 30-9 overall. He was named Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Pitcher of the Year. The American Baseball Coaches Association named him a first-team All-American pitcher. The San Diego Padres picked him in the 28th round of the 2008 amateur draft.

Nick split his first pro season between the AZL Padres (2-0, 3.60) and Eugene Emeralds (2-2, Sv, 4.15). Assigned to the Fort Wayne TinCaps in 2009, he was amazing at 6-0 with a 1.11 ERA and 55 K to 14 walks in 56 2/3 innings. In 2010, he was 4-7 with a 5.13 ERA between Fort Wayne and the Lake Elsinore Storm. He joined the independent ranks in 2011, going 12-6 with a 3.19 ERA between the York Revolution and Sioux City Explorers. His 123 strikeouts for Sioux City were second-best in the American Association (21 behind Ben Moore), he tied for 8th in wins, tied Alex Maestri for the most hit batsmen (17) and he was 3rd in ERA (behind David Trahan and Moore). Moore was named the All-Star starting pitcher. With Sioux City in 2012, he was 5-8 with a 5.57 ERA.

Overall, Schumacher went 31-23 with a 3.87 ERA in five seasons.
