Biographical Information[edit]

The brother of Jim Barr, Mark Barr pitched three years in the minor leagues, two of them at AAA.

The California Angels selected Barr in the 24th round of the 1972 amateur draft out of junior college but he did not sign. Barr was an All-Tournament pitcher in the 1974 College World Series, helping USC to the title. The Boston Red Sox picked him in the 14th round of the 1974 amateur draft.

Mark debuted professionally with the Bristol Red Sox, going 3-0 with a 3.57 ERA in 11 games. He wasn't the best Barr in the Eastern League, though, as Steve Barr was an All-Star.

In 1975, Mark Barr made it to AAA with the Pawtucket Red Sox and appeared in 70 games, leading the International League. He was 9-4 with six saves and 2.78 ERA and worked 120 innings out of the bullpen. He was called on to issue an IL-high 18 intentional walks. The 1975 Boston Red Sox, though, were a pennant-winning team and did not need an extra hand in the bullpen, as their staff stayed healthy.

Barr returned to Pawtucket in 1976 when they were known as the Rhode Island Red Sox. He went 10-10 with four saves and a 4.07 ERA in 45 games, 14 of them starts. He again issued the most intentional walks in the IL, 13. It was his last season.
