Biographical Information[edit]

Mario Sanjur peaked at AAA then played for the Panamanian national team.

Detroit Tigers scout Ramon Webster signed him in July 2012. [1] In the 2012 U-18 Baseball World Cup, he hit .227/.320/.409 and fielded .918 at third base. [2] He made his pro debut the next summer with the VSL Tigers, hitting .207/.331/.285 and fielding .992 behind the dish, backing up Jose Ovalles. With the 2014 DSL Tigers, he batted .230/.323/.319 with a career-high 19 runs, 7 doubles, 26 RBI and 6 steals. He fielded .994 and threw out 45%. In '15, he came stateside and batted .200/.276/.263 for the GCL Tigers, fielding .980 and gunning down 41%.

Sanjur was at .221/.294/.253 with the 2016 Connecticut Tigers, fielding .992. The Los Angeles Angels' Salt Lake Bees took him in the AAA portion of the 2016 Rule V Draft. [3] He split 2017 between the AZL Angels (.196/.220/.321 in 20 G), Burlington Bees (.149/.213/.176 in 22 G) and Inland Empire 66ers (0 for 1). In '18, he was with Inland Empire (2 for 9, 2 BB) and the Orem Owlz (.244/.340/.333 in 28 G). The organizational backup appeared for five Angels farm teams in 2019, from Rookie ball to the AAA Salt Lake Bees (where he hit .261/.261/.261 in 7 games), totaling only 85 plate appearances and 24 games between all the stops. Having been a backup primarily, he had hit .209/.295/.275 in 856 plate appearances in seven years in the minors, spread over 252 games. He fielded .987 and threw out 33%.

Mario made the Panamanian senior national team for the 2024 Premier 12, a dozen years after his junior team appearance. He did not get into any of their five games, as Fernando González did the catching. [4]
