Biographical Information[edit]

Jose Ovalles has played and coached in the minors.

Ovalles hit .226/.393/.338 for the 2011 VSL Tigers with 31 walks in 50 games; as a catcher, he gunned down 43% of those who tried to steal. He led the Venezuelan Summer League's backstops in percentage caught stealing. He produced at a .259/.357/.447 clip for the same club in 2012. In another 50 games, his walk total nearly got cut in half (17) but he showed more pop (going from 6 2B to 17, 3 HR to 5). He also was now alternating between C and 1B. He tied Orvin Tovar and Deiber Olivera for 4th in the VWL in doubles. In 2013, he hit .294/.380/.450 with 14 doubles and 33 RBI in 54 games for the VSL Tigers, throwing out 35% of attempted base-thieves. He was 10th in the league in OBP, missed the top ten in slugging by .003, tied Arnaldo Calero for 9th in RBI and was 7th in OPS. He had hit .263/.376/.418 with 37 doubles and 69 walks in 154 games as a pro.

He was hitting coach for the DSL Tigers in 2016-2017, DSL Tigers 1 in 2018-2019, and DSL Tigers in 2021.
