Marcos Castillo reached AA.
Castillo debuted as a pro in 1996 with the DSL Dodgers 1, going 1-2 with a 3.27 ERA. For the San Joaquin 2 club in the 1997 Venezuelan Summer League, the right-hander had a 6-2, 2.41 record. In '98, he came stateside with the Vero Beach Dodgers but struggled to a 5-15, 4.99 finish. Despite having anERA aaround his team's average, he paced the Florida State League in losses.
Castillo's record was better in 1999 when he was 14-9 with a 4.10 ERA for the San Bernardino Stampede, tying Randey Dorame and Rick Guttormson for the most wins in the California League. He tied Dorame for the most wins by a Los Angeles Dodgers farmhand in '99. Marcos also threw the Cal League's only no-hitter that year, topping the Lake Elsinore Storm on June 14.
Castillo was back with Vero Beach in 2000 and improved his ERA to 3.89 as he went 7-9 with only 34 walks in 141 innings. He did yield a FSL-worst 18 home runs, though. He did not pitch in 2001, presumably due to injury.
In 2002, Marcos was with Vero Beach (0-1, 3.07 in 17 G) and the Jacksonville Suns (2 R in 2 1/3 IP). Let go by LA, Castillo would wander through the independent leagues over the next few years.
Castillo pitched in 2004 for the Pensacola Pelicans (2-3, 6.40) and Amarillo Dillas (5-5, 2.69). Had he qualified, he would have ranked 5th in the Central Baseball League in ERA. In '05, he was with the Brockton Rox (2-1, 7.33) and Les Capitales de Québec (7-5, 3.10). He would have finished 4th in the Can-Am League in ERA had he qualified.
The Venezuelan hurler went 10-6 with a 6.17 ERA for Amarillo in 2008 with 26 home runs in 127 innings, but only 27 walks. The Dillas went on to take the league pennant.
For 2010, Marcos signed with Spain's CD Pamplona club. He debuted on February 27 by giving up 10 runs in 7 innings versus CB Sant Boi, losing to Junior Guerra; a 3-run homer by José Luis Riera was the worst blow in a poor performance.
