Biographical Information[edit]

Manny Francois played in the minor leagues, Mexico, Italy and Taiwan.

Francois was signed by the Los Angeles Dodgers in 1984, and he hit .299/.372/.391 with the Great Falls Dodgers in his first season. He then had a .277/.375/.364 batting line for the Vero Beach Dodgers in 1985, and he hit .253/.335/.318 in 39 games with the Bakersfield Dodgers in 1986. He also played 9 games with the San Antonio Dodgers, and he was 5-for-19. Francois then hit .280/.335/.354 in Vero Beach in 1987, and he recorded a .245/.339/.330 batting line in San Antonio in 1988. After hitting .273/.336/.378 for the San Antonio Dodgers in 1989, Francois slumped to a .175/.265/.273 batting line in 1990 for the AA Canton-Akron Indians. He then played in Mexico for four seasons.

After hitting .313/.388/.493 with the Thunder Bay Whiskey Jacks, the Wei Chuan Dragons of the CPBL signed him in 1995. He hit .242/.325/.318 in 19 games in 1995 and he had a .344/.405/.515 batting line in 1996. Had he qualified, he would have tied Hector Roa and George Hinshaw for 7th in batting.[1] In the 1996 Taiwan Series, Francois hit .250/.308/.333 but the Dragons were beaten by the Uni-President Lions in 6 games. He then batted .425/.500/.694 in 43 games in 1997, and he hit .320/.346/.440 in the 1997 Taiwan Series. The Dragons beat the China Times Eagles in 6 games. Francois hit .259/.339/.354 in 1998, and he left the team. In 2001, he hit .431/.523/.602 with 36 runs in 31 regular season games for Nettuno, but the middle infielder fell to .217/.308/.217 in the 2001 Italian Series. He won the batting title by .043 over Ramón Tavárez. [2] He returned to Taiwan in 2003 and signed with the First Financial Holdings Agan. However, his batting line fell to .214/.421/.214, and he was released after playing 6 games for them.[3]

Overall, Francois hit .321/.396/.475 with 221 hits and 20 homers in 5 seasons in the CPBL.
