Biographical Information[edit]

Infielder Maikol Gonzalez began his professional career in 2008. He was originally drafted by the Colorado Rockies in the 42nd round of the 2005 amateur draft (one pick after first baseman Brett Wallace), but opted not to sign. He was next taken by the Rockies in the 35th round of the 2008 amateur draft and inked a deal. The scout was Scott Corman.

He began his career with a .371/.440/.485 slash line in 26 games between the DSL Rockies and Casper Ghosts in 2008, but did not hit .300 or better with any regular season club again until 2012, when he hit .335/.407/.444 with 21 steals in 62 games for the independent El Paso Diablos (he had hit .333/.385/.333 in five games for the Tiburones de La Guaira during the previous winter). After two more good years with El Paso in which he hit at least .330, got on base over 40 percent of the time and stole at least 40 bases each year, in conjunction with a .417/.432/.528 line for the Lincoln Saltdogs to start 2014, Gonzalez returned to affiliated ball on May 23, 2014 by inking a deal with the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim. He struggled with the Arkansas Travelers (and also struggled with the Leones de Yucatan of the Mexican League in a brief stay there), and slashed just .248/.329/.303 on the year. He returned to indy ball for 2015 and 2016. In 2015, he slashed .305/.380/.411 with 46 steals in 98 games for the Joplin Blasters. He began 2016 with the Winnipeg Goldeyes and concluded his playing career in 2019 with the Ottawa Champions.

Following the widespread COVID-19 induced baseball shutdown in 2020, Gonzalez moved into the coaching ranks. He was the hitting coach for the Gateway Grizzlies in 2021 and bench coach for the Lake Erie Crushers in 2022. Gonzalez then joined the Atlanta Braves organization in 2023 as manager of the DSL Braves.
