Biographical Information

The son of John Farrell, grandson of Tom Farrell and brother of Jeremy Farrell and Shane Farrell, pitcher Luke Farrell was selected by the Kansas City Royals in the sixth round of the 2013 amateur draft. He signed soon afterwards and made his pro debut with the Idaho Falls Chukars on June 25th, making a start and taking a loss against the Ogden Raptors.

He made his debut for the Royals on July 1, 2017, in the first game of a doubleheader against the Minnesota Twins. His father took a one-day leave of absence from managing the Boston Red Sox to be present at the game. He started the game and gave up 5 runs in 2 2/3 innings, but was not involved in the decision. It was his only game for Kansas City as on July 28th, he was purchased by the Los Angeles Dodgers and then on August 9th was claimed off waivers by the Cincinnati Reds. He pitched 9 times for the Reds, all in relief, with no decisions and a 2.61 ERA in 10 1/3 innings. He was on the move again after the season, being claimed off waivers by the Chicago Cubs.

Farrell saw more major league action with the Cubs in 2018, as he pitched 20 times, including 2 starts, to go 3-4, 5.17 in 31 1/3 innings. However, he did not finish the season with the team as he was placed on waivers again on September 3rd and claimed by the Los Angeles Angels. He did not pitch for them at the major league level, however, on January 4, 2019 changed teams again, being claimed by the Texas Rangers. He went to spring training with Texas, but on March 2nd, suffered a broken jaw when hit by a batted ball off the bat of Jalen Miller of the San Francisco Giants.
