Biographical Information[edit]
The grandson of Tom Farrell, son of John Farrell and brother of Luke Farrell and Shane Farrell, Jeremy Farrell began his pro career in 2008.
Farrell hit .486 with 52 RBI as a high school junior and also played football and basketball. He was picked in the 41st round of the 2005 amateur draft by the Colorado Rockies. He opted for college instead. He hit .324/.382/.439 but fielded only .860 as Virginia's primary third baseman in 2006. He hit .180/.254/.295 for the Falmouth Commodores that summer. As a sophomore in 2007, he missed almost two months due to injury but still batted .349/.447/.447. In the Cape Cod League that summer, he batted .191/.294/.284 for Falmouth, but still led the team with 23 RBI. He played primarily first base for them. In 2008, Jeremy produced at a .318/.421/.579 clip and led Virginia in home runs (11) and RBI (54). The Pittsburgh Pirates chose him in the 8th round of the 2008 amateur draft.
Farrell made his pro debut with the State College Spikes, hitting .287/.351/.381 with 56 strikeouts in 202 AB. He fielded .878 at third and .977 at first. He led the team's regulars in average and was second in OBP.
Farrell became a hitting coach with the AZL Cubs in 2016 and South Bend Cubs in 2017.
