Lukas McKnight reached AA as a catcher then became a scout.
McKnight was taken by the Chicago Cubs in the 21st round of the 2000 amateur draft, one round after they picked Carmen Pignatiello. Lukas hit .290/.392/.364 for the 2000 AZL Cubs as a backup C-1B. In 27 games for the 2001 Boise Hawks, he batted .290/.347/.493. In 2002, he was with the Lansing Lugnuts (.295/.366/.393 in 53 G), West Tenn Diamond Jaxx (1 for 7, BB) and Daytona Cubs (1 for 2). The next year, he backed up Casey Kopitzke with the Diamond Jaxx, hitting .196/.266/.205; he also was 5 for 26 with a walk for Daytona. In 40 games for Daytona in 2004, he produced at a .238/.313/.307 clip as a backup to Jose Reyes. In 206 minor league games, McKnight had hit .261/.335/.348 with 8 home runs and 81 RBI in 595 at-bats. He fielded .981 at catcher and threw out 21% of opposing base-stealers. He also fielded .988 in 17 games at 1B.
The Cubs retained McKnight as a scout starting in 2005. He signed Tony Campana, Chris Carpenter, Josh Harrison and Dan Vogelbach.
