Biographical Information

Outfielder Luis Matos is a cousin of Osleivis Basabe. Both of them made their major league debut during the 2023 season, Matos with the San Francisco Giants and Basabe with the Tampa Bay Rays. He is also related to identical twins Luis Alexander Basabe and Luis Alejandro Basabe and minor leaguer Olivier Basabe.

Playing for the San Francisco Giants in 2024, he drove in 5 runs in a game against the Colorado Rockies on May 17th, and followed this by collecting 6 RBIs against the same team the next day. He was just the fourth player in Giants history with two consecutive games of 5 or more RBIs and the first since Jack Clark in 1982. He was rewarded by being named the National League Player of the Week.
