Luis Landaeta was a minor league outfielder for 10 years. He spent some time at AAA.
Landaeta hit .278/.307/.341 for the 1996 AZL Rockies. With the same club in '97, he batted .291/.327/.372. In 1998, he played 29 games for the Portland Rockies (.297/.355/.360) and 28 for the Asheville Tourists (.228/.298/.317). In '99, Luis batted .280/.313/.360 for Asheville.
Landaeta batted .253/.278/.385 for the 2000 Salem Avalanche. His batting line for the 2001 Carolina Mudcats was .282/.327/.373. He then moved to the Pittsburgh Pirates system for 2002. He hit .264/.311/.450 in 65 games for the Lynchburg Hillcats and was briefly with the Hickory Crawdads (8 for 30) and the AAA Nashville Sounds (1 for 5).
In 2003, Luis played for the Victoria Capitals of the Canadian Baseball League, batting .336 and slugging .533. During the 2004 campaign, the 27-year-old hit .322/.397/.537 with 13 home runs in 81 games for the Tijuana Toros and .240/.333/.380 in 15 contests for the Yucatan Lions.
The left-handed batter hit .321/.394/.476 for Tijuana in 2005 and .305/.345/.438 in 27 games for the 2006 Aguascalientes Rieleros.
Landaeta then joined the Venezuelan national team. In the 2006 COPABE Olympic qualifiers, he was 2 for 25 with a double and 4 walks, playing first base despite having spent his US career as an outfielder. Even though he hti poorly in that event, he was back with Venezuela for the 2007 Pan American Games, in which he went 2 for 8 with a double.
Landaeta batted .316/.435/.737 with 2 home runs in 19 at-bats in the 2008 Americas Baseball Cup to help Venezuela win a spot in the 2009 Baseball World Cup. In the Americas Baseball Cup, Landaeta was 5th in slugging and tied for 5th in home runs.
Luis was with Venezuela for the 2009 Baseball World Cup.
He signed with the Marlins Puerto Cruz in Spain for 2010. He debuted on February 27, hitting cleanup and playing DH. He hit a 2-run homer in his first at-bat in the Division Honor and later that day was plunked and scored.
