Biographical Information

Lico Mederos played in Cuba and the Negro Leagues.

Mederos debuted for Club Fe in 1910, going 0-4 with a 6.08 ERA and hitting .148/.258/.296 as a regular in right field. He lost to the Detroit Tigers and George Mullin when they visited Cuba, 12-4. In the US, had a 5-4, 1.34 record against top black teams (in the pre-league Negro Leagues) and hit .203/.230/.271. He led in strikeouts (41, two ahead of Eustaquio Pedroso), was second in wins (one behind Pedroso) and was second in ERA behind José Magriñat.

The right-hander was 5-6 with a 2.61 ERA for Habana in 1910-1911 and hit .244/.304/.317. He was third with 34 strikeouts (behind the great José Méndez and Magriñat), was third in wins (behind Méndez and Luis González) and ranked 4th in ERA (between González and Pastor Pareda). He was 1-2 against the Philadelphia Phillies when they visited Cuba. He had a 2-2, 1.85 record for the All-Cubans team when they played top US black teams and was 0-2 with a 4.50 ERA for the Cuban Stars, another Cuban team touring the US in 1911.

He was 0-2 with a 4.67 ERA for Almendares in the winter of 1911-1912. He next resurfaced in a top league in 1920, no longer pitching and going 2 for 10 for the Cuban Stars; he spent most of the year putting up a batting line of .227/.284/.320 (103 OPS+ in a low-offense loop) as the regular center fielder for the Atlantic City Bacharach Giants. When Marianao joined the CWL in 1922-1923, he hit .177/.221/.266 as a backup corner outfielder.
