Lennart Koster has been an outfielder in the Hoofdklasse.
In the 2002 World Junior Championship, he was 9 for 14 with 3 doubles, a walk, 6 runs and 5 RBI in 5 games to lead the Netherlands offense alongside Kenny Berkenbosch. He played catcher, third base, first base, right field and left field. Koster would have led the event in average had he qualified.
In the 2005 Hoofdklasse season, the teenager was 1 for 9 for DOOR Neptunus. By 2006, he was a regular, alternating between the outfield and catcher. He hit .317/.415/.394 and stole 8 bases in 8 tries. He was 14th in the league in OBP and 15th in average, right behind longtime Dutch star Dirk van 't Klooster. He tied for 8th in the circuit in swipes.
In the 2007 Hoofdklasse, Lennart batted .328/.440/.387 while moving full-time to the outfield; he had 7 assists in 38 games. He was 15th in the league in average again and tied Mike Duursma for 10th in OBP. He also tied for 5th with 25 walks.
Koster slumped to .241/.345/.312 in 2008 but still drove in 33 runs in 40 games. Playing catcher somewhat regularly again, he threw out 10 of 16 attempted base-stealers. He tied Tjerk Smeets for third in the league in RBI behind Bas de Jong and Jourick Blanco.
The 23-year-old's batting line for Neptunus in 2009 was .309/.415/.412 while splitting the third outfield slot with Matt McGraw and Martijn Meeuwis; Shaldimar Daantji and Eugene Kingsale held down two spots. He was 2 for 12 with a walk and 3 runs in the 2009 Holland Series, which Neptunus won.
