Biographical Information

Catcher Larry Himes played in the minors from 1961 to 1969, spending five seasons in AAA. He was a scout for the California Angels in the 1970s and managed the Idaho Falls Angels from 1974 to 1977. He then served as the Angels Scouting Director from 1981 to 1986.

Himes was the general manager of the Chicago White Sox from 1986 to 1990. While GM, he drafted Sox stars Jack McDowell, Robin Ventura, Frank Thomas, and Alex Fernandez. He also traded for Sammy Sosa.

Himes was then GM for the Chicago Cubs from 1992 to 1994. While with the Cubs, he traded for Sosa again.

Himes was a special assistant to the GM for the Cubs (1997-2000) and Baltimore Orioles (2001-2002).
