Biographical Information[edit]

Kyu-hyun Moon played in the Korea Baseball Organization for 15 years.

Moon was drafted by the Lotte Giants in the 10th round of the 2002 KBO draft, and he mainly stayed in the minors in his first eight seasons. He only played 62 games combined for the big club, and he also missed the 2005 and 2006 seasons due to military service. Moon also represented South Korea in the 2005 Baseball World Cup, batting .409/.435/.500 and handling 23 chances error-free at short. He did not win All-Tournament honors, which went to Eduardo Paret, whose Cuban team beat South Korea in the title game. He got two hits off Dany Betancourt in the 3-0 title game loss but his teammates were 2-for-25. Moon played 80 games with a .237/.308/.335 batting line, then he hit .180/.263/.281 in 11 games for the Canberra Cavalry in the 2010-2011 ABL. He was named the starting shortstop of the Giants in 2011, and he played 125 games with a .242/.312/.318 batting line. Moon had 105 appearances in 2012, but his batting line fell to .205/.255/.246.

The Gunsan native shared the starting shortstop spot with Ki-hyuk Park in 2013, and he hit .238/.307/.257 in 79 games. He improved to .281/.350/.375 in 2014, then he had a .245/.283/.321 batting line in 2015. Moon hit a walk-off homer against the Samsung Lions on June 28, 2016, then he added a walk-off hit the next day. It was the first time that a player hit back-to-back walk-off hits against the same team in KBO history. Moon ended up hitting .272/.333/.342 in '16, then he had a .270/.295/.391 batting line in 2017. Moon was still a solid shortstop in 2018 as he played 122 games with a .275/.309/.399 batting line, but he lost his spot in 2019 when Bon-ki Shin shined. Moon only played 40 games with the big club, then he announced his retirement. He was the fielding coach of the Giants minors team from 2020 to 2021, and he coached their big club from 2021 to 2023. He returned to the minors in 2024.

Overall, Moon hit .251/.301/.335 with 608 hits and 26 homers in 15 seasons in the KBO.
